After a long, hot summer of festivals, holidays, and slow mornings, the thought of heading back into the office can feel daunting. If you’re dreading that “back to work” moment, you’re definitely not alone.

But here’s the question: does the design of your workplace actually make a difference to how you feel about returning?

At Forster Inc Interior Design, we believe the answer is yes. The atmosphere of a space — the surroundings, the layout, even the first impression you get when you walk through the door — plays a huge role in how motivated, relaxed, and connected people feel at work. And in London, where hybrid working has reshaped the way we use offices, the importance of thoughtful workplace design is greater than ever.

A Case Study: Designing a Hybrid Workplace for Our Future Health

One recent project that really highlighted this was the London office design we created for Our Future Health, just after COVID restrictions lifted. Like many organisations, they were navigating tricky questions:

How do we make the office feel welcoming again, after so long apart?

How do we balance hybrid working with a sense of togetherness?

How do we create a design that can adapt and grow as the team expands — and even move with them if needed?

The solution was a flexible, modular office design that placed sustainability at the centre. Furniture could be reused, reconfigured, and repurposed, ensuring the workspace was both eco-friendly and cost-effective. The result was a workplace that worked hard on a practical level, but also felt warm, inviting, and worth the commute.

The London Office Context

The challenges Our Future Health faced aren’t unique. Across the capital:

68% of London workers now follow some form of hybrid workplace model (ONS, 2024).

Yet, 1 in 3 employees say the office environment is the biggest factor in whether they actually want to come in (Leesman Index, 2023).

Sustainability is rising fast on the agenda: 82% of London businesses now prioritise reducing waste and reusing materials in their workplace design strategy (Greater London Authority, 2023).

This tells us something clear: if you want people back in the office — and enjoying being there — office interior design matters more than ever.

Creating Sustainable, Welcoming Workplaces

A great workspace doesn’t just tick functional boxes. It tells a story, creates a sense of belonging, and improves wellbeing at work. From natural light and biophilic design to sustainable materials and modular layouts, the right choices transform an office into a place people genuinely want to spend time in.

At Forster Inc, we specialise in sustainable office interiors across London, blending personality, flexibility, and eco-conscious design. Whether you’re an East London start-up or a growing organisation in the City, we help create workplaces that people love coming back to — not because they have to, but because they want to.

So, let us ask you: what makes a workplace somewhere you actually want to be?
